F88 Lager comes The Australian Hotel Townsville Est 1888
27th February 2020
Today we are proud to announce F88 Lager is coming On Tap and Takeaway sales to the iconic Australian Hotel Townsville.
The Australian Hotel is already heavily involved in the FNQ Military society currently sponsoring several army sporting clubs, TPI, Legacy and many other forms of military groups reunions and functions.
The Australian Hotel was the first building to be erected in the Western section of Palmer Street and was opened on Wednesday 3rd October 1888.
Portions of the original hotel were destroyed by fire in 1902, only the old bar and rear section escaping major damage. Within 6 months the hotel was rebuilt; the exterior was a replica of the original hotel except that the balcony was replaced with a verandah.
One of the Australian Hotel’s most famous and colourful hotel guests was Australian born Hollywood star, Errol Flynn who stayed in the upstairs rooms - it is reported he paid for his accommodation by selling signed autographs.
The hotel remains today as one of the old splendid hotels for which South Townsville is justly renowned. Returned to her former glory in January 2008 she still holds iconic status in Far North Queensland.
